  • Welcome to my blog!

Hi and welcome to my blog! Glad you could stop by! This is where you can see my most recent sessions and posts about my own life, so look around and make yourself at home!

I am a photographer in the Birmingham, AL area. My style is a blend of traditional and contemporary. Everyone loves a nice portrait, but it is the less guarded, more intimate images that stir our emotions. So, I try to capture both!

When I am not shooting, I love to spend time with my family, travel, exercise and continue to learn more about photography. (It's a bit of an obsession!)

Check out my website by clicking on the "portfolio" link. Also, please to leave me some blog love! I would love to hear what you think! Welcome and come back soon!

Laugh Away SMA with Henry Cho and Brian Regan – Southeast Children’s Photography

I was blessed to be able to photograph a wonderful charity event a couple of weeks ago. One of my best friend’s niece Evie, was diagnosed with SMA in 2008. Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease. It weakens the muscles, making it difficult or, in most cases, impossible for a person with SMA to move around and do routine physical tasks like getting dressed. Ever since the diagnosis, her family has been full steam ahead trying to help find a cure. They founded StopSMA to help raise funds and awareness. A treatment for this otherwise untreatable disease is not far flung theory; It is almost a reality. Last year, they hosted  the first annual “Laugh Away SMA”. The hilarious Henry Cho was one of the comedians for that show. He was kind enough to come back this year and bring along his buddy Brian Regan. Both comedians had me rolling and are amazing people as well. BTW, it’s real hard to take photos while you are cracking up! The show was in Jackson, MS, but if you would like to help out StopSMA in Birmingham, you can! Myself along with 11 other photographers are donating our time for mini sessions on Sept 11. All proceeds will go to StopSMA, an all volunteer organization.

It was so great to get to meet Brian, a genuinely good guy.

Reese’s father presenting Dr. Bassell of Emory University with a check for $70,000 to go towards SMA research.

Henry is hilarious! Love that he's a southern boy! :)

packed house!!

You might say Brian is “expressive.” Ridiculously funny!

a few of his best "looks" of the night.

The comedians hung out afterwards for a “meet and greet.” I can’t say enough nice things about Brian and Henry.
Reese giving Brian a sticky fist bump.

Reese and Evie are cousins, both with SMA. Here is a shot of the whole crew!

Love Brian Reagan!!! My husband made me a fan years ago. We actually saw him when he was here in January. He doesn’t have to be dirty or have a dirty mouth to be funny! Great work as usual, and for an amazing cause makes it even better!

Dee Horton - August 15, 2011 - 8:56 pm

Ashley, you are AWESOME!!! The pictures you took the night of the event are nothing less than perfect, fantastic, absolutely beautiful!!! I can’t wait to hug you again on Sept. 11th. 🙂

This brought tears to my eyes. Evie and Reese are precious. And a check for $70k for research!!!! What a blessing!!! Great pictures Ashley, the composite of all of Brian’s faces made me laugh. 🙂

The White Family – Birmingham Alabama Family Photographer

Had a wonderful and HOT day with the White family! It was so great to see them! Allison won a session via my Facebook Fan Page contest. Since both she and hubby are avid golfers, we decided to shoot on a golf course! We chose a Monday to shoot since most courses are closed to golfers. Apparently there was a last minute tournament! We made it work, but we were sure to stay clear of the balls and carts! The girls are just adorable and did such a great job. 🙂 The baby doll and rocking chair in the last few pics was mom’s. How sweet!!

Mary Mouser - August 16, 2011 - 10:22 am

Ashley, your work always amazes me. Everything is always so tack sharp and creamy. The setting was absolutely gorgeous for this photo session and this family must be delighted beyond belief with their portraits. Mary

Miranda – Trussville Alabama Senior Portraits

Here comes another stunner! Had such a great time with this session! Even after I was stung by a wasp on my finger and it swelled up like a vienna sausage! I like to suffer for my art. 🙂 It’s hard to take a bad picture of Miranda, the camera loves her! Excited to show off some of my favs from her session!

Miss Elizabeth – Birmingham, Alabama Children’s Photographer

Meet beautiful Elizabeth! I was so happy to see her again and can’t get over how much she has changed! Daddy better be ready to run off the boys when she gets older! What a beauty! I just love this age and have so much fun during these sessions. 🙂

Mary Tweedy - August 4, 2011 - 1:33 pm

Picture A Cure – Mini Sessions for a great cause

Want to get some updated family pics this fall AND give back?? Well here is your opportunity! Some of the most talented photographers in Birmingham have teamed up for the first annual Picture A Cure for SMA mini session event.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease. It weakens the muscles, making it difficult or, in most cases, impossible for a person with SMA to move around and do routine physical tasks like getting dressed. People with SMA may be able to stand when they are very young, but few ever possess the ability to walk. And for those that do, the ability is short lived.

That is because SMA gets worse over time. Weaker muscles not only affect ones ability to walk, but to breath and pump blood through the body. To a person withSMA, a simple cold is a dangerous threat that, if ignored, can easily and quickly become a case of pneumonia.

SMA is fatal—many times because of respiratory and pulmonary complications.

Each photographer will be donating her time and a disc of images. You will receive 10-15 edited images on CD with your 20 minute mini session. All proceeds will go to find a cure for SMA.
